Decorations

A spotlight casting green and red, swirling on the front of a house, really confuses the poor dog at night when he has to go out. A retro tree, with fifties flare, hoops of white light against the dim, speaks to fictional simple times when the world didn’t seem so grim. LED fringe of icicles, drooping down just under the eaves, festive, yes, but not that much like the real thing when water does freeze. Tall, inflatable Santa Claus, waves slightly with each passing breeze, a bit much, sure, but I like him, he brings great joy to the kiddies. Oversized, plastic candy cane, held by an elf with Santa hat, a walk lined with seven of them, they’re freaking out the family cat. Light-up reindeer on the roof line, a brave man, to drag them up there, to risk a fall for Christmas cheer, he’s either dumb, or truly cares. Garlands wrapped around the lamp-post, the big wreaths hanging from earth door, low effort, yes, but effective, and some folks just won’t do much more. The white lights that they say bring class, but to me, they just seem boring, Christmas is supposed to be gaudy… Maybe it’s a Protestant thing? Now me, I prefer the old school, multi-colored, big lights, C-9, scattered across overgrown bushes, the classics do it every time.
