Death On a Darkened Street

A darkened street
The amber glow of an old lamp
Doing little to chase the shadows
A young boy lies bleeding
Beaten, battered and barefoot
Wounds puncture his heart and lungs
Barely thirteen he grasps at bloody clothes
And he cries
He never had the chance to live or love
Alone on the street he calls for his mother
His eyes close
A sigh comes from his lips
And he is gone
Killed for a pair of shoes
