Death of a Friend

The Death Of A Friend

Words vibrating
among the drum beat of life
millions upon millions flow
without ebb
Tapping, insistent, dissolving
distant hissing
internally humming
without end
from child then grown
then old
now hushed
silence around the bed
Prelude sinking
silent waiting listening
There are children outside
like cymbals crashing,
But here no more songs
no more farewell
but a beat slowly
Slowly, slowly gone
