Death and Love

In all great romances
People vow they will die for love
Kill for love
Because to break the most sacred philosophical truth
Proves the most human trait

But in all great tragedies
No one kills themselves for love.
Loved ones take their lives
Under the false pretences of a lack of love
Romeo's suicide over Juliet's death

How can one justify taking their life
Because they have too much love?
It hurts me to love
To the point of death
But I cannot say "I love you so much I must die"
Should not

The object of my love is everything and nothing
I love my mum, dad, sister, brothers
the wind on a summer's day
the friendships I have
the ones I have lost

I love the man who broke my heart
And the man who let me break his.
I love the complexities of humans
the regularity of life.
I love the past, I love the future

But in this love, I suffer
I hurt when others hurt
I cry when I've disappointed
I scream at the madness of humans
I cut at the unreliableness of life

Each love I have is a scratch on my heart
Too much and the fragile lining will tear
Crumble
Break
Die

Yet despite this
I do not stop loving
And my heart continues to be torn apart
I do not know how much longer I can bear this
I will love until my heart stops
Until I can take it no more.
