Dear, Virus

Dear virus,
Don't you think you've had your fill?
Maybe it's time to move along.
Why couldn't you have been a friendly chap?
With symptoms of well-being and happiness.
Love and compassion
Appreciation for God
Closer to the spirit and matters of the heart
The fever of empathy
Instead of social distancing, we'd draw closer.

But you've turned us into lepers
scurrying from one another
pointing fingers in the shadows
gangrenous hearts
hoarding-hardening
alone upon our death.
