Dear Santa
frozen ornaments dangle from furry branches in viral frost
thank you for my home and kind shelter
a guardian angel swirls around a tree in the corner of hope
tinsel tingles all senses and promises immaculate freedom
from loss and despair as the year approaches end and growth
thank you for my treasures of peace
I do not want presents other than the joy of family and friends
bread and water will do for nourishment comes from the soul
and you my white-bearded wise man travel from door to door
please stop at my neighbours and give them
what I have found and will seek in times of an uncertain future
turn longing and humble yearning into kind soothing dreams
guide and protect them and give them a place in the manger
from which flows passion and resolve to overcome suffering
an equal opportunities Father Christmas sharing and caring
thank you for your just consideration
trust and faith in fantasy figures complement science and belief
a powerful idol should not be reserved for little innocent children
but kids become adults and will shape the world with your help
some cannot wait for the Easter Bunny for witches and solstices
but all of us need some pointers as to what delivers sacred wishes
regardless of religious denomination or antithetical conclusions
please be a beacon and light in the dark
until next year I will count my blessing and take each day as it comes
because gratitude involves serenity humility and modest appreciation
much obliged and please keep up the good work
