Dear Past Self

Dear Past Self, Without you I wouldn’t be here You created all the memories I hold dear You never gave up And honey, you were always enough Because of you I’m not lost, I’m where I belong You’ve been forgiven for your wrongs Yes, you made bad choices, But who hasn’t, you picked your poison Self destruction nearly destroyed you You hated yourself for what you went through Dear Past Self, I wish you could see how much you grew You were so much stronger than you knew Because of you I survived I lived long enough to become a mother and wife You’re more than what happened to you The past is in the past, you’ve paid your dues Like a phoenix you rose from the ashes You let being broken ignite a passion Without your failures I wouldn’t be here You faced your demons and conquered your fears Dear Past Self, It was never your fault, you should have forgiven yourself I wish I could take away all the pain you felt What was done to you wasn’t fair No matter your choices you didn’t deserve to be there You’ve survived real life monsters and abuse You been beat, manipulated and used Because of your trauma you were broken But through it all you never stopped hoping Dear Past Self, You made it through hell with a story to tell You picked yourself up every time you fell You gave up self hatred for a confidence you found You gave them a real reason to be proud Because of you I’ve continued to grow And I’m happy the path I chose I’m not alone anymore And I know what I stand for Progress is progress, no matter how slow Your hard work was worth it and your sacrifices mean more than you'll ever know.
