Dear Old Golden Rule Days

~ Dear Old Golden Rule Days? ~

The 2023 school year mercifully limps to a close
Seems eons ago when students could afford to doze
No more - Today they'd better stay on their toes

Every few days a mass shooting, or a bomb threat -- to your stations!
Teens fighting their teachers over perceived rights violations
There is gender dysphobia, bullying, taunting
Halloween the day that is least haunting

Ah! But perhaps common ground exists, the books we've all read
Then again, I forgot, teens watch Tik-tok instead

Excellent poem that describes the harsh realities for our school kids. I have a rare grandson who absolutely hated that the kids on his bus had their attention on their cell screens. Halloween the day that is least haunting!! A fave for me! Should be a POTD, if I had a say!

My daughter told me, middle schoolers now seem/look like high schoolers, highschoolers more like college age students & college age students often look older than their age, she is only in her twenties, and she noticed that. I realized she was right. As we drove along and slowed in the 15 mile an hour school-zone, I couldn't help but see it too. The kid's faces seemed serious, sad, or tough, not the youthful joy that there should be. The joy of youth, it seemed, for many, is gone. So tragic.

GladI I never experienced this as a child. where I attended Schools that were all private, teachers from religious orders only. Small classes, much Homework. No fights, fear, guns or bullying. Only experienced that inChicago Schools as a teacher, attacked by kids verbally and with fists. The Union was of no help…a veritable nightmare, Pangie.

Chicago Public Schools have been officially declared a 'War Zone' by Sergei Lavrov. Expect Russian tanks to be rolling up to the front doors any day now. (So don't sweat the small stuff, like the 'active shooter.' lol.) ~ gw
