Dear God, I'M a Friend of Your Son
Dear God, this is your old tried and tested friend, Milt,
I’ve always been a friend of your son, Jesus the Christ
You know since childhood I have worshipped you full tilt.
But, on occasion, I’ve felt like I’m the victim of a heist,
And my tithe is being used to promote radical causes
I’ve always been a friend of your son, Jesus the Christ.
“Love thy neighbor” is one of those essential clauses,
My Christian community is turning away the homeless
And my tithe is being used to promote radical causes!
I always thought “welcoming the stranger” timeless,
But my church wants sovereign borders and walls
My Christian community is turning away the homeless.
My ancestors all came from distant lands of the Gaels,
Foreigners seeking a place where they can live in peace,
But my church wants exclusive borders and solid walls.
I love America and may it, as a secure haven, increase
Dear God, this is your old tried and tested friend, Milt,
Foreigners seeking a place where they can live in peace,
You know since childhood I have worshipped you full tilt.
