Dear God, I'M a Friend of Your Son

Dear God, this is your old tried and tested friend, Milt, I’ve always been a friend of your son, Jesus the Christ You know since childhood I have worshipped you full tilt. But, on occasion, I’ve felt like I’m the victim of a heist, And my tithe is being used to promote radical causes I’ve always been a friend of your son, Jesus the Christ. “Love thy neighbor” is one of those essential clauses, My Christian community is turning away the homeless And my tithe is being used to promote radical causes! I always thought “welcoming the stranger” timeless, But my church wants sovereign borders and walls My Christian community is turning away the homeless. My ancestors all came from distant lands of the Gaels, Foreigners seeking a place where they can live in peace, But my church wants exclusive borders and solid walls. I love America and may it, as a secure haven, increase Dear God, this is your old tried and tested friend, Milt, Foreigners seeking a place where they can live in peace, You know since childhood I have worshipped you full tilt.

This is sad "I always thought “welcoming the stranger” timeless, But my church wants sovereign borders and walls My Christian community is turning away the homeless." - not Christlike.

You got that right. All of this talk about we should take care of our own first, but the truth is we have enough resources, if they were properly dispensed, to take care of everybody. Too much selfishness and greed in the world today, IMHO.

Sadly borders are necessary especially in this age of terrorism and ihadists and those looking for a free meal ticket. There is a process for entering another country. Yes we have many innocent refugees fleeing from wars and terror and my view is they should be given asylum, sadly many lowlifes hop on the bandwagon. Charity begins at home but we should always welcome the less fortunate too. Tom

You have said it so well, Tom. First, in my way of thinking, "they should be given asylum," and then we deal with the "lowlifes" and those who "hop on the bandwagon." I can't help but ask myself how I would feel if I were fleeing a horrible existence, my family constantly in danger, in a hellhole country. Empathy is just a part of my makeup. I was bullied and brutalized as a child, so my heart always goes out to these people. I do understand other opinions and approaches to this issue, but I stand by my innermost feelings.
