Deafening Silence

The sign simply said
the library is closing,
no public outcry
as the librarian read;
just a deafening silence

There is a deep irony in this poem with its double meaning on "silence," Terry! Well done! Blessings and cheers!

Your "Deafening Silence" is a wonderful read/write. I really enjoyed this short one. Yes, silence can be deafening yet nice to have sometimes. Have a lovely day writing away.............

In this very subtle humorous tanka, when a library closes, people don't get angry; instead, they just stay quiet, as they have come to expect. Well done, Terry

A wonderfully understated irony tanka: the closing of a library is met not with protest, but with the very silence its readers inhabit. “Deafening silence” gives the small scene a resonant, poignant final turn.
