Dead

war was never an objective thing for me
it was where your friends came back
in someone else's shell
with pockets of drugs from the military
a false leg
a broken skull
where your grandpa got the long scar on his leg
you were NOT allowed to touch
and the scars on his heart that sent him
drinking into the night
falling down the stairs
and running away on the train to California.
war was pain and hurt
in an immediate way
boys I knew lost themselves,
and boys I know now go after highschool
and their mothers
weep in my arms
they come back with there souls
dead in their eyes
