Days of Yore

Think back, way back to days of yore The simplest things today were such demanding chores Bake bread from scratch Slaughter a chicken Salt it and drain the blood Fetch the well-water Trudge through rain and mud Sew and knit all your clothes Cut the firewood and keep it lit Wash and press laundry by hand Eke out a living from stubborn land We often say that life was less complex back then ~ Though we can't tell a chicken from a hen

Can we imagine spending our day on these tedious things? I cannot and yet they did.

Trouble with all these new fangled mod cons is that it makes you lazy. Used to love my walks to the tv to change the channels lol. Tom

I used to get even more exercise than you, Tom. I'd walk over to my TV and kick it in the shins!! lol. Of course, not since 1978 when I gave up TV for reality. (And that's true too). :) gw

And we never had time to feel unsatisfied or get stuck inside our heads, we were too darn busy staying alive! Nice perspective.

Precisely. The more leisure, the more psychiatrists, I always say. Of course, 'you' give me your money, and I'll give you my problems... Peace and Serenity, Gershon

Perhaps they were more satisfied. Truly savoring a meal and a dance.

So true, Kim. The simple pleasures are too often forgotten today in the rush for --- what, exactly? Great point! Thanks, Gershon

G’day Gershon … I recall carting and stacking bales of hay as one example. After fourteen hours the body was spent, but then it happened again the next day - thanks for the memories Gershon - Lindsay

Myself, I couldn't take the work in the cowsheds in my mid-20's. The smell in the sheds, the heat baling the hay. Not as tough as you, I guess. The fruit orchards were more to my liking. G'day! :)

LOL Gershon. I remember those days fondly, but then when we go camping, I miss the conveniences we have now after about 5 days. ;) Linda PS: I do still bake bread from scratch on occasion :) PPS: We raised chickens...I can tell.

Ha, ha! I used to work on a farm where I had to load up chickens for market. Not my favorite animals!! Smiles, Gershon
