Days of Rain

days of rain

charcoal black skies churn
endless days of pouring rain ~
  puddle reflections

thunder showers roar
 torrential pounding rhythms beat ~
  pearls drip from bare twigs

showers from cloudbursts
 in crystal liquid sunshine ~
  season of rainbows

sculptures of branches
twist in a winter twilight ~
  buds on empty boughs

light breathes in darkness
winter wears black and white scarves ~
  rain bathed red berries

squalls ride whirlwinds
 dripping with rowdy raindrops ~
  parched earth ricochets

Mesmerizing haiku’s, Sam, seeing that it has already found favor with others. A presentation of challenging hurdles, albeit, you’ve gifted an entertaining run. Cheers to your splendid achievement my friend, Aloha, William

My Dearest Rhyme Time Friend, your poetic gift shines like "crystal liquid sunshine" and colors the poetic page with a "season of rainbows" -your exquisite imagery is truly enchanting. You capture the many moods of rainy days with "puddle reflections" and dripping "pearls" and "rain bathed red berries" and "rowdy raindrops"! A lustrous strand of haiku gems, my lovely poetry sis! Congratulations for your excellent win in Brian's contest. Warmest wishes and hugs across the rainbow skies.. ~Susan

I don't write good haiku, but I can recognize good ones. Yours are superb--vividly descriptive and appealing, Sam. Janice

Thank you so much Janice! I have to give credit to PS for teaching me to write haiku - especially Tom Cunningham and his haiku strings. I have to admit it was a struggle so I really appreciate your feedback! You write such beautiful imagery I hope you will try again. I look forward to reveling in your efforts! Sending you blessings on seventeen syllables.

Paghunda, thank you! I love writing haiku with its emphasis on imagery in nature. This form challenges us to be observant and aware of the natural gifts that surround us. So glad you enjoyed my rainstorm and rainbow! Blessings!

Hi Susan! Many thanks of much gratitude coming your way! As the song says "I love a rainy day!" In November if it doesn't start to rain I do get grumpy! Thank you so much for your beautiful feedback. I am honored. I only wish we, here in northern CA, would get one day of snow!!! Sigh. When writing this poem I was struck by the dramatic intensity of winter rain. Hope all is well my friend! Sending you blessings of crystal liquid sunshine!

Stunning images Sam, I love a good downpour, it cleanses everything. Hope you're keeping well, over fork over. Tom

Thank you so much Tom! Being from the northwest I was raised on rainy days and love, like you, a good downpour but always grateful to be on the inside - warm and toasty - viewing this amazing sight! This string was such fun to create based that childhood delight! Maybe our genetic selves remember rain in the highlands! All is well. Hope you are doing well. Blessings! Over Fork Over!!
