Daydream

Driving north yesterday
   through hot searing haze,
aroma of melting tarmac
     blending fresh cut grass -
I got to thinking of you.

I saw you playing cricket
  on Queen’s Park Savannah
in tropic isles far far away.
Got to thinking of us down
     Long Bay last summer.

And as I changed gear
 slowing down for the lights,
I thought I smelt...
                Sweet Briar.

     Written: circa 1995
              ———

My cricket playing friend
lived once upon a time on
Sweet Briar Road.

This has a nostalgic feel to it. Aromas and smells can trigger very real visions and memories such as your daydream. Dream on!
