Day Slips Away
I let the day slip away
unmarked time in my older years at play.
Gray cast single clouded sky
reaped restless winds their chill un-denied.
In his small bed my dog sleeps
afraid of wind song and all it reaps.
In the quiet interludes of calm
the silence holds back all throngs.
Leaves race to and fro
slapped against the fence no place left to go.
Grasses short colored pale greens and browns
hold no walk today as I remain housebound.
Too many wintry days of gray
keep the sun and warmth distantly at bay.
To rest, observe and contemplate
the day as it gives into fate.
I pluck the pc keys as long as the day is light
grasping for the poetic words to write
but alas, too my dismay
I let the day slip away.
