Darkness Is My Mask

Darkness is my mask
You do not really know me
Beneath my skin are miles and miles of rivers
Red rivers dumping sewage in heart
And among the reeds and invasive species swim
Destroying your ecology
Your new civilization borrowed from the past
Your trademark pretensions
That you know what this world is about
And now I am only disrupting existence
What will tomorrow make of me
When the fruits are rotting on the tree
And I too will not pick them
For the pittance of the pay
Who will plant cabbage then
Water your vegetable with sewage water
Break down the order of your border
Where will you get abundance of food to dump
Out of your unproductive farmers
When hunger takes off my mask

When you see what I do in the darkness
My back to crap tables and neon lights
When the soucouyant skin is fallen
Like a white sheet from your face
And you see the flesh beneath them
Same as that of your race
And you behold my humanity
Crying for your embrace
Darkness hides so much of me
It's black mask my spirit fears
