Darkness

Clawing for escape,
distorted images swimming in
my head.
My mind in constant battle
as my insides twist and turn.
Depression my old hated foe
rears its ugly head once more.
To taunt and probe,
through the carefully layered
shell I fought so hard to re-
build.
Why do you taunt and tease
me so?
As I battle through shadows of
self-doubt
reaching behind clouds of
misery
and mists of uncertainty,
and once again stand toe to
toe,
with a well-known adversary.
Pulled and pushed to and fro
until your desire has been
met.
Taking your leave for a while,
only until our paths
once more at the crossroad
will meet.
And the cycle starts all over
between you and me.
