Darkness

1
I rose in the middle of the night
and asked
the darkness,
Who am I now?
Am I alive?
The darkness
gave no answer.
After sitting quietly
for a while,
I listened
to the sound
of my own breath.
Then
I put out
the lights
inside me.
I saw
that between
the darkness
and me
there was
no difference
left.

2
darkness
lies taut
across the river
lights glow
on the fishing boats
in the night
the boatmen
have begun
to cook
by the riverbank
stands a two-storeyed
house
no one
lives there
anymore
even on
the birds' wings
there is darkness
