Darkness

“Darkness”
by Positive Mark

I lit a candle in the morning, a bit before sunrise, to adorn the darkness once more before day.

I thanked her for her company, and for being my blanket.
I once again begged her to stay.

She’s always saying she’s ugly.

I asked for permission to see her with my own eyes.
I asked her to give me a chance to love her.
I asked if I could have my way with her.

She wrapped me, but once again buried her face to hide her smile.

I whispered reassurance that I don’t wish to blend with the light. I breathe better in her embrace.

She blew out the candle.
We went back to sleep.
When my eyes opened again

she was gone.
