Dark Skies

Her smile used to sing Of youth and sunshine, Before her light was taken, Covered by dark skies And cruel rains An anger wells within, When I can see the storm Hanging on the horizon, One day ending, But not yet gone While on her face And in her eyes, She bears the marks Of lightning strikes And thunder claps I can provide her only shelter-- A temporary relief, While the winds still whip the air, and the boughs still whine and crack For the storm can not be silenced, Nor the damage be undone, As I hold her battered heart Beneath the blackest of skies
