Dark Scenario

It is growing dark now
The air outside is cold
It is near the end of a winter day
Inside I'm warm
I have shelter
unlike the many homeless
I see on the street
    and in subway tunnels
It's a sad commentary
   on our society
which lets people live on the street
where they can get
   hypothermia
due to weather conditions
Our city should open
   its heats to the
homeless
There are some city residents with
great wealth
and some who have almost nothing
A rather sad state of affairs don't you think?
Maybe the situation will change
     one day
But for now
We are caught in the web
Of a civilization without pity

Something needs to be done to help the people who are struggling in our own country. If the rich could open their hearts just a little it would change a lot... An important topic to bring to our attention in this great poem. Very powerful writing, Matthew. Well done!

Matt, unfortunately, there are many greedy people in the world, who don't want to give their riches to help the poor. Good poem and so true.

Hi Matthew, thanks for stopping by, well done poem on inequalities of capitalism...in a more equitable society (socialism) time has proven tyrants take-over and again, history is proof.....98% of civilians killed in armed conflict (millions over the centuries) die at the hands of their own government exercising control....jimbo

Your words took stage and treated the reader to a glimpse of a world filled with disarray, sadness and hopelessness. Emile.
