Dark Memories

Today I was
     thinking
   about the martyred
Yiddish poets
   Only know a few phrases
of that language
but I feel that poets shouldn't
be shot
POETS SHOULDN'T BE SHOT
and if you ask me why
    It is because they
are the educators of
     mankind's feelings
          The only ones
who keep the
     flame
     burning
when shadows cover the
      minds and souls
                of the pouplace

Thanks for explaining to me a little of this history. I knew many Russians were killed during Stalin's time, did not know about the 1950's! scary times they were. even here in the US with those ridiculous trials going on about socialism!

Thank you for the Soup mail, Matthew. The killing of these poets was a travesty. Very, very sad. Love, Carolyn

Gee, Matthew, I haven't heard about these poets who were shot. When did this happen? I agree with you about poets being the ones who keep the flame burning. Intriguing poem -- tell us more. Love, Carolyn
