Dangerous Face
Jenny slides the poppy across her lips
television blast out a dose of amphetamine
bites the midnight smoke
acrid windscreen of her dreams
flash card party
weekends alcoholic one night stand
is all it means
Tousled beauty on fishnet pavements
the one more dollar of the street lights
but pretty perfect feels so plastic
cat whistle raucous
plays the violin
of her heart
She never feels the devils false start
impostor radios
bleat, bleat, blah, blah; blah, blah, blah
the same old song of certainty
merry-go-round of mediocrity
accordion ripping at the barking dogs
and Jenny drops her puppet
then feels so lost
Trick twister and knife edge
slash the wires
says she’s so bored with all this
as fantastic friend Pete cries fierce in the streets
God damn it he says
I want
I need to be free
Yer but free is a dangerous face
a skeletal march of reprobates
breaking bargaining chip
of the lives we fritter
we’ll never have enough
of monies dirty litter
we'll be singing the tune of sirens
arrested in the gutter
is all it means
Jenny wipes the poppy from her lips
as Pete swallows the last drop of vodka
and everything else leads to escape
and nothing is whatever it was it means
the television pukes amphetamine
and the radio feeds on her peace
only rain drops silent stars
lay their carpet
on the windscreen
of her dreams
Tousled hair beauty
and fantastic friend Pete
say goodbye to the pavements
and the streets
cruising into midnight
searching for escape
brighter and bigger
things
Is that all that it means ?
