Danger Zone

One dingy smoky bar in old Vallarta
Alive after midnight with disco dances,
She balanced with a salty margarita
Exchanging not-so-subtle, knowing glances
The beautiful raven-haired senorita,
Employing seductive Hispanic prances,
Took away the naïve, youthful touriste's breath
Lead him into a hypnotic dance of death.

I've just spent the last ten minutes reading up on this form of poetry and found out it goes back to Tuscan poets about 800 years ago. Fascinating! Actually, I found it more difficult to work with than some other more intricate forms like tarzanelles and villanelles. When I write, I try to match the subject matter to the poetry form with which it works best. I enjoy word games, too.
