Notes About The Poem

No, our dispatch has not read us this particular safety message, but every day we get a message a little bit like this example.

Daily Safety Message

The students on your bus count on you every day
so do not let your attention from the road astray.
Pedestrians and bikers might not be easy to see
crashing into them will take more than a knee.
Look with your eyes and see with your mind,
safety comes in all direction and sides.

Its a very responsible job,and of course safety of its passengers is the number one priority. Keep up your good work Miranda.

I LOVE LOVE my job. I've had other jobs that I've felt very important, like cleaning the ER (had that job about 4 years) but the job as a bus monitor is by far the most heart warming.

A mindful reminder. It gives us poets a compliment. Someone had to write it.

Yes, I did write it. Thank you for that compliment!

it would be terrible to be in charge of kids on a bus and be responsible for a crash you caused. And vice versa, to be the one who crashes one of them!!

Fun fact we were taking a few children home in a mid day bus run *very small kids only go a half day to school,* and a POLICE OFFICER hit the back side of the bus. I didn't know we were hit, I thought the bottom of the bus dropped a little bit on the road or something. The bus was empty and my driver did nothing wrong.

So true! My husband chased down a driver who almost hit our kids in a school zone (years ago). Crazy too, in the rain and traffic, I saw a motorcyclist zipping in and out of traffic on the illustrious highways of Atlanta! The point is to be mindful of all, slow down, show good manners even on the roads…especially on the roads!

Lots of crazy drivers on the road, and that is no matter what vehicle you are driving. I am a bus monitor.
