Daddy

I really don’t know where to start
So I guess I’ll just say what’s in my heart
I want to tell you a story
About my dad that I never got to see
He was kind and good and a brave man
There were many like him who left to fight in another land
 Like others who went before
Everyone prayed that they would be back at the end of the war
That men would come and leave no more
He never came back again
He never saw my life begin
Never saw my first birthday
Or take me to school on my first day
 I grew up wondering why
Why didn’t God pass my daddy by
To let him come back home safe to be
 Home to his loving family
I’ll never feel his loving touch
Or hear his words telling me he loves me so much
The dad I long to see is in a picture in front of me
And yet I know he will always be here in my heart to comfort and guide me
