Daddy

teaching me all the necessary skills to
brave this big world
i knew i would always be daddy's little girl

scrapes, scratches, bumps and bruises you swore
that one, one would be the last
when i call, fall or just need a laugh you would come
quick hurry fast

even though dress up, tea parties and entertaining
wasn't your knack
you are my biggest hero and that's a fact

when i'm afraid, frustrated, and want to cry
you would come to my rescue, yes there were
quite a few
you are my biggest hero and that is so true

when fashion statements went awry and protested to
what wasn't fair
whether you agree or disagree loud and proud
you would always cheer

on a day like today a tie would be the obvious thing
knowing me i would rather to sing

when walking down the aisle on grad day or simply
to say i do is my plan
forever you and i side by side hand in hand

not one day i choose to salute you
but every blessed day of the year is for you
