Notes About The Poem

"I am a cage, in search of a bird." - Franz Kafka

Crying Cage

I am a cage,
and I want my owner
to search for a bird -
a little one with clipped wings
so it does not fly away.

I want it to enjoy me
and my perches,
my two round bowls of seed
and one for water...

I want it to sing
to the red birds outside,
and to never leave me,
for I am a cage despairing.
I cry, for I'm alone.
