Crumpled Rose

Hurtful Words, like sharp blades, inflicted! chopping a rose with a knife in hundred pieces. gets hit painfully from all sides, all corners, she stands alone! resolute, upright, unperturbed, strong! but inside, she bleeds profusely! inside, a well of tears rise and fall, a mirror breaks into million pieces! The flower dries and the petals fall on the hard ground without a noise! You hurt her so deeply, The cuts are intense! The saddest part is - you have no regret, You have no idea how gaping a wound cruel words can cause! This is someone who did not know the face of cruelty! Now she does! The rose is my favorite object of metaphor. Your description of domestic abuse (or gender) is spot on and well deserving of the recognition received in John’s contest.

Mala, congratulations on your win with with visual treasure trove of images. Every pain inflicting cut can be felt as the rose stands "steadfast." Dear Sam, Thank you so much for your thoughtful, profound comments. This is not a new poem - probably the softness of a rose and the harshness of the pain, inspired this. The images came naturally - I am so glad I took part in the contest, although I did not expect to win. My project is going well - I have completed twelfth chapters of the planned eighteenth. I am truly happy that I am able to share many of my precious memories in the form of a story - in my home-language. Love
