Crumbling Beneath
A dream came to me
Every thing beneath my feet was crumbling away
I ran to high ground and yet it too crumbled
Watching all disappear into nothingness, I heard a voice
The voice called out to me to look up.
But in my self-centeredness
I continued watching all crumble away and cried out
Again the voice called, ‘Look up!’
I saw the Lord with His hand outstretched
I reached for it, then in a moment of hesitation glanced down
Massive destruction came rushing toward me, taking the very peak I stood on.
Again, the voice calls, ‘Look up ... look to ME!’
With Him, I have a firm foundation in which to stand.
But when I take my eyes off Him,
Everything crumbles beneath me.
Nothing but a void is there.
With His hand in mine I am safe
I listen to His voice, paying no mind to any other
In His care, with His guidance is where I want to be.
My heart is His, my eyes, I want fixed on Him
No matter what may come of this world
And its self-destructive behavior
My hand is in His hand
I am looking up!
