Crossing Over
I've always been on the white side
afraid of the other
I was the girl not allowed to buy a black Barbie
Now I'm dating a black boy
that my daddy doesn't know yet
The labels make it harder
causing them to react
I watch a movie and cry
the whole way through
I feel for the girl
who's mama ain't there to take her
So many families like that
making it so hard
But I don't feel like I'm above them
I wanna be on their level
I could other side
I have it hidden inside of me
