Crimea River
When the imperial waves
came rushing in,
century after century upon
kneel capitulation
The khanate carnage
was pale tears
in a vassal vale devastating —
What a Caucasus burial field
O how those royal tributaries
ever thus did yield!
From Alupka to Perekop,
the blue wails
flowed Karusu upward
As the peasant pain
always settled bosom below
Crimea river
Khanate time after conqueror time,
pauper tears would
echo overflow
from the princely tributaries
Many streams of misery
poured forth
out of Crimea river grief
From Kerch to Donuzlav ...
from Kaffa to Eupatoria,
the cerulean cries
flowed into an
empty crimson sky
Crimea river, baleful so Salgir wide —
This was Al'ma where
the Circassian heart of freedom died
