Notes About The Poem

Image result for pictures of twilight family out in the yard children catching fireflies

Crepuscular

In childhood at the end of the day As the air grew cooler And I could quietly play The chickens would go their roost While lightning bugs were caught Adults' presence gave a confidence boost Sleep would creep up from the shadows Neighbors would go home Cows would lie in carpeted meadows All of nature's voices settled down Let those time in the cool quietness Now slip their arms around

This is beautiful. It transported me to childhood as lived a few weeks almost each summer of childhood in Georgia. Weeks of helping grandparents collect eggs, one grandmother wringing a chicken neck, people porch-visiting, chasing fireflies, watermelon, playing with my cousins at dusk, crickets singing, oh, I could go on and on, but instead I will most sincerely thank you for taking me there, I had a wonderful, sentimental time. Oh, smell that Georgia air. Sure you don't want 'go TO their roost'

CayCay, no, you don't want to go the chicken coop and take a deep breath. LOL..Nor do you want that Road Island Red Rooster chasing you. LOL...Sara K

This takes me back. The lightning bugs we us to catch. I find it funny even though we're in town chickens still crow.

Yes, John, a few people will keep a few chickens enclosed inside the city limits so they can have fresh eggs. Amazing isn't it. Thanks for the visits. Sara K

Sara B., I, also, liked the second stanza because it some of my happier moments in life were when my parents could be around me. They both worked outside the home plus they tried to have a farm with all its responsibilities. They worked on different shifts so one of them would be home with me, so it was not easy on them or me. Thanks for stopping by. Sara K
