Creep

The shards left of the mirror still defy me
While you stand shining beside me
Radiant, you're radiant and glorious
I lurk towards the shadows to hide me

But I steal a fragment of the mirror
The silver glass I love and despise
I sit all alone in the corner
And glare at my reflection with weeping eyes

I creep in the shadows that hide me
It seems a fitting word now, creep.
For while you smile in daytime and nighttime
I'm unforgivably rotten even in my sleep.

Would things be better if I stayed to myself?
Would it change if you left me alone?
No.
I'd still have the image of your perfection
Haunting my every nerve and bone

What a sad piece this is. It speaks of one who is much less than beautiful seeking the shadows to hide the ugliness and watching wistfully as someone very beautiful enjoys all the blessings of being not ugly. Very well written and well expressed. Really good imagery. Thanks for the kind words on my "In My Rose Garden". God Bless and a 7 from me. JB
