Creation's Morning

In the early morning
when the coffee is hot and strong
and hours of the day begin to push along
I ponder that status of the world at the dawning
anxious and shaking with trepidation calming
waiting on the light when the rain starts to cascade
and suddenly the plans of the day must be remade.

Cooler breezes flow low in the atmosphere
we pause and ponder simply staying here
and becoming oppressed by transitional humidity
we feel claustrophobically contained in this fluidity
yet there is hope on the horizon awakening
preparations of life renewed ready for the taking
long-awaited even the dream cannot remain hesitating.

Wake, stir and rise from your sleep
times are a-changing , there are promises to keep
open your heart and your eyes
this is the moment of asking why
men and women for freedom cry
and hope no longer hangs in the sky
but strains to become the dream of reality once denied.

Breathe it all in
embrace the truth, we are of the same skin
humankind, God's creation well-devised
 welcome the truth that lies
there is no difference down in our souls
we are children of the Grand Creator, equally discharged
to care for the earth, the sea and one another's heart.
