This poem was written as I reflected upon my visit to the Sistine Chapel. I stood in awe taking in each of the Michelangelo’s panels. The one of the “Creation of Eve” is the first one that came to mind. ********************************* She rises from the hush beside his ribs, as though shaped from the breath he has not yet learned to release. Light gathers around her like a memory returning from a place beyond naming, soft and certain as dawn. Her eyes open into God’s outstretched hand~ not command, but invitation, a gesture woven from longing and delight. In that gaze, something ancient stirs, a knowing older than the world’s first morning. Adam sleeps in the cradle of earth, unaware of the tremor passing through creation, the way the air holds its breath as she steps into her first astonishment. Even the angels leaned in closer, their wings half-folded in reverence. And I, standing before this painted rising, felt the echo of my own feminine beginning~ the moment I first sensed I was seen, summoned, beloved into being. A quiet unfolding, a soul awakening to the touch of divine intention. *this poem was written for an online poetry class
