Cradle To Grave

It seems I have just found myself
not in this body, rather in the wind
where I have always been,
and lost to grimy fingers
scratching inside out in wonder,
chasing old identities,
and not quite happy with the latest one--
who joined his greedy fellows
at the trough with thoughts of lust
and later, rusty arteries, and death.

I much prefer the breath, the spirit ride,
creation's thrust returning still again,
the journey through a cosmos
that a man will never touch with fingers.
Suddenly I am aware that one is born
when he is old--must be, as we were told
by one they called the son of God,
but then it never dawned on us

that all those blinking particles
were playing games,
and in the changes that they wrought,
proved quite immortal--you and I
behind our eyes, looked out
and saw it all.

And it was good.

Oie, I thought this was about imagination and creativity, now I think I'm wrong. I think that every puzzle should have solution, but at times pieces are missing, or it might only be the wind that blows, having no purpose nor objective in mind! Enjoying your poetry, Robert!! Best wishes, Mikki

Also, I have to agree a little bit with Jean here. YOur poems ARE a bit difficult to get. Since I am not one who likes to sit around puzzling over things, I am too lazy to stay and try to figure them out. But it's as if I can "sense" their meanings even though I do not exactly pinpoint the meanings. if that makes any sense! Parts of your poems I really get, however, and those are the parts I love!

Robert, I'm glad you told Charlotte you don't comprehend this poem yourself. I am such a straight talker, it is way above my head.I intend to keep looking through your list, however, as you were so king to look at mine. Jean

I hope you will! They're not all obscure---just most of 'em. :-) But the meaning dawns gradually, be patient with me. And, straight talk is always acceptable. -Dean

aww can't leave you lonely now can I? no worries, I've just been off butterflying :-) I really like this one, even though the denser parts of my mind don't fully comprehend it, but oh joy I DO understand what you're getting at, and btw that ending is a great wrap up of the entire poem...I happen to think that this little gem would be just perfect for the 'this is how life feels...' contest that is currently running...go on, enter it, I dare you, it's more than good enough, trust me...

Thanks, Charlotte. I don't think I fully comprehend it either. :-) Dear one, this is not one of my best, & I'm still not convinced that any of my stuff is contest-ready. Someday? Perhaps. I'm curious. How does one butterfly? I think I'd like to go along. -Dean
