this heart of mine
a little bruised and battered
accumulated matters
episodes and interludes
wins and losses
how they took their toll
there were times we thought
our hearts would turn to stone
but we grew stronger
and managed to keep going
somehow rising above
chin up, rolled with the punches
we’re not who we used to be
a bit less bruised and battered
