the live oaks sheltered
and sunlight stippled the drive
covering our heads -
our Grandmother's cashmere shawl
wrapped around all three of us

Karen, thank you, but as poets will do, it is imagined (especially being from the north) yet...everything has much truth within the thoughts

Brings back good old days with a smile. Outstanding tanka. Congratulations on your top win, Craig. ^___^ JCB

I did not intend to comment on the winners, but here I am. Congratulations, Craig. Even back then, you "got it" - objective pivoting to subjective. Nice content as well 😊

I see back in 2017 I called this a real tanka. Not a common sight here. Congrats, Craig

An actual tanka... very nice :) I was chuckling at the "because I said so" in your contest rules and wanted to pass by. Hello Craig.

Hello Craig! Dropping by to say thank you for saying what you said about my haiku, that was really nice to know :) as for your tanka here, I really enjoy how you used the word "stipple" here... and of how this gives off calmness, security and comfort, that only a grandma can give...Ei, how cool is that? I read Cyndi's interpretation of grandpa in your haiku, and now you really intentionally made use of a grandparent :) I bet you got inspired by that ;)
