Notes About The Poem

Sometimes when I'm at rest with nothing to do I think about all the beauty and peace that I have always known. My life has not always been an easy one but then God never promised anyone that . In fact He promises that if you choose to follow Him you will be met with some conflict. Some folks get really angry when they see a Christian for some reason unknown to me. But He promises to carry us through the conflict. Being born, raised and bred in a free country where there is plenty for all I know I have never known the hardship that many face and don't know if I could endure such. I'm just thankful for the beauty that surrounds me and the plenty I have known. Sometimes you may not have much money and be barely scraping by and all you may have is peanut butter and jelly to eat but be thankful for it. Some people don't have that much. I am reminded of an old song by Evie Tornquist.

"BUT IF HEAVEN NEVER WAS OFFERED TO ME.                                                                       EVEN GOD'S PROMISE TO LIVE ETERNALLY                                                                      IT'S BEEN GOOD JUST HAVING THE LORD IN MY LIFE.

Counting My Blessings

There's nothing that thrills me like the feeling,
When into my mind the words come stealing,
Of thoughts and dreams of long ago,
Of songs and seasons and new fallen snow.

How sunlight sparkles on waters calm,
And the feel of a breeze on warm skin is a balm.
The crisp air of Autumn and warm summer rains.
The morning sun's glow on mountains and plains.

I'm happy, contented with The Lord by my side,
For basically all of my needs are supplied.
I eat when I'm hungry and drink when I thirst.
I work and I play and I'm free as a bird.

I've lived my whole life in a place that's secure;
Never known the oppression that other's endure.
I think on these things as I lie here at rest,
And closing my eyes I know I am blessed.
