Cosmos

I look at the night sky... Wow, we are small, aren’t we? Just a tiny spec floating in space. It’s like we’re almost nothing... I look over at you. Your eyes seem to wander, As if you were exploring the cosmos From the ground we stand on. Then I ask you... “Why did you leave without me? We could have stayed together... You left me behind...” You keep staring off To whatever galaxy your mind is. Silence is the only sound I hear... Then I look upwards. “Was it me? Am I the problem? Am I why you left?” My eyes and hers are misty now... But her eyes continue to wander, Not looking away for even a second. But finally, you look away, and through you tears… I hear you say... “I’m sorry...” You fade from existence, And I’m left talking to myself. I walk away, crying now... But look back for a moment, just to say... “I’m sorry too...” 4/25/18 Entered into the "Best Free Verse in April (not for a contest)" Contest Sponsored by Laura Loo Fifth Place
