Corona Virus
Corona Virus
For these are terrible times
COVID 19,
The modern plaque,
The tragedy of our lives
Medical personnel at the frontlines
Armed with rubber gloves and face masks
Battling a virus ravaging the town
And the world at large
Sheltered in place
Distancing six feet apart
But reaching out by
Staying in separate quarters
To stop its spread
And limit exposure and eventual deaths
Caused my the breath
Sick and symptomatic
With shortness of breath
Tightness in the chest
Fever
Cardiac arrest
It lives in the cough, yawn, sneeze
And perhaps in the breeze
One mustn’t touch one’s face
At the least
Washing dirt off our hands
And subsequently killing germs
The birthday song sang twice
For 20 seconds
Black bodies disproportionately
Cold, black and blue
and many of the old , wrinkled few
Down and journeyed home
To a place unknown
Groceries and medicine :
Meaningful supplies at the corner stores
Long lines trying patience
Glimmers of hope come with the wave
Despite the uncertainty of circumstances
Testing our faith
We express gratitude for another day
Cheers and applause for the heroes of our
time
