Copper Coated Prayers
Lonely, but never alone;
surrounded by friend and foe.
Faithless believers, curiosity,
hope.
Whimsy and last resort.
Inky depths of infinity,
Heaven and earth and hell.
Toss of fate, random belief,
Ripple, sink, swell.
Copper coated prayers,
Fly and fall below.
Whispers dance on bated
breath,
Unaware of where they go.
Youth and new and innocent,
Revel in delight!
Lollipops and licorice,
Grimacing with might.
Brightly colored bits and
baubles,
Foremost on the mind.
Shallow, naive, effortless,
Soon forgotten, left behind.
Superstitious fear, the few,
Black cat, mirror broken.
Passing glance and casual toss,
Desires thought, never spoken.
Vanity and disbelief,
Motion of ill repute.
Affair denied by reality,
And conflict. Action moot.
Saline stained, taken knees,
Nowhere left to turn.
Gripping tile and stone and
hope,
Lessons yet to learn.
Drops of love...and faith...and
soul,
Taint the sacred game.
Poetry marred by bitterness,
Ages, dates, names.
Faceless photographs,
deathbed vows;
Penance for deceit and love.
Stitching heartbreak and
inevitability,
Searching for answers from
above.
Images blurred by melancholy,
Destiny derailed by desire.
Forcing fate, watery grave.
Begging for clarity in the mire.
Restored, denied, lingering
ache,
Answered, ignored, in limbo.
Blind confession, anonymous,
Stories of betrayal and woe.
Hearing, listening to old and
new,
Never a promise, time will tell.
The plight, the burden, the
memoirs,
Thankless job of the wishing
well.
