Notes About The Poem

Convergence

    just like a river...

               m o v i n g
       towards the sea;
           two currents;
a gentle pull of gravity
separate paths trace
the stone of a mountain,
each was under the impression
of traveling solo.
one infused with the cold of ice,
the other, sunlight, twice -
reflection of light
extracted from the topsoil
of light-writing clay;
snakes
twisting in the dark
to find their way.
at the bend
boundaries become
blurred, relinquished;
a flat, undeveloped
and quiet area of land;
they unexpectedly unite
pulse to pulse,
no storm to herald,
no sudden impulse.
both collided, mingled, spun,
no longer two,
not fully one,
yet with the same rhythm,
deep and wide,
in one tidal wave.
in a fleeting alignment
of time and space,
a sudden warmth
in a stranger's face,
the reality of a path
made clear:
all long journeys
were leading
     here.

The flowing form, with its shifting indentation and spaced “m o v i n g,” beautifully echoes the currents’ journey. The river imagery gives the unexpected meeting a quiet intimacy, while “no longer two, / not fully one” captures the delicate balance between connection and individuality.
