Notes About The Poem

Meter - Mixed, with Trochaic Trimeter / Tetrameter

Rhyme - A / B / A

Contretemps

Angry acts begin.
Harmful words would never flare,
Count to ten then once again.

Wildfire spreading fast,
With mistaken, muddled acts.
Smokey aftertaste will last.

Then finessed assaults,
Vainly exit, pride intact,
Casting blame, the other's fault.

Friendships fall head-long,
Disarrayed in stumbled steps.
Puzzled reasons blurred then gone.

"Wildfire spreading fast" I completely agree. "Harmful words" do exactly that. Think before you speak. Always !! Powerful poem here. ~ Brandy

Gene Bourne The poem is it's usual sound meter and cogent piece of dissaray among friends. I hope not a true story, but it happens with friends. I know with my friends, my true ones, will always be friends. I want them to always know that, and that communication is always the best way to resolve anything, just to make sure that friend you lost may have some valid excuse. Who knows. Good work Gene. Hello Gene My Friend . . . Have not heard from you in a while. I hope all is well by you!! Your poem here "Contretemps" is a most appropriate title for your cogently expressed rhymed verses in this subject setting. I always find from your poetry and your style of writing that you do indeed say so much with exquisitely honed imagery, and yet do so with a pronounced modicum of words. Brilliant write here indeed and a most strong "7" from me and this is a FAV too. Best Wishes and Spill Ink!! Gary

Demetrious, add 25 years to my photo. It's the only one that fit the format. I tried 3 previous ones and "no go". I feel more like the photo I finally used. I'm a "Baby Boomer" Thanks so much for the 7....there was no intent of deception. I always want to keep my mental attitude young. Thanks so much for the comment...It's appreciated...Your friend,....Gene
