Contented Stumble
Dark streets, wet back alley slithering in dark rain.
Moon smudged by cloud as the street lights wither
Propped on wall, ale makes legs shudder
'Dog and Duck' sign creaks in breezy rain
Smile and grin in dark grime
Homeward bound, just in bloody time!
Wife at home waits to welcome my plunder
Kids in bunks made if iron slumber
Feet warm up in front of fire
Wind whistles from cobbled street
Through gap under door 'till warm air it meets.
Cup of tea, slice of bread and butter.
Humming tune in rhyme with thunder.
Sleep in bed or in front of fire.
Repeat tomorrow this free time of pleasure.
