Content Or Discontent

I met a man, now grown old
Who has deep pockets filled with gold.
He has worked so hard all of his life
He had no time to find a wife.
Neither children now, nor friends about,
He sits alone and suffers gout.

Another man, now also old
Never found his rainbow end with gold.
He lives with love and dignity
Amidst a loving family.
His doting wife keeps him well fed
And he's content from wake to bed.

If the rich man would but take his gold
Share with the hungry, homeless, cold,
He then might live in full content
Knowing his money is well spent.

The second man has known the joy
Of rearing a gentle girl or boy.
With a loved wife to warm his bed,
He'll live content until he's dead.

Benjamin Franklin quote. "Content makes a poor man rich, discontent makes a rich man
poor.

A very wise perspective on what is really important in life, Joyce. Material wealth can be a blessing, but the man who has a devoted family is usually happier than one who hoards his money. Franklin had it right, and you conveyed your thoughts with style in a moving and tender story. Love, Carolyn

I really like this one. It is so true. Richness can't be counted in coin. Great job, Shirley
