Considering Your Stuff

How many square feet are required To hold all of your stuff? Will five thousand, six hundred do it? Or will two hundred be plenty enough? I thought about this the other day When I was surveying my various collections, And wondering what becomes of a rich man’s stuff When they wind up in a house of corrections! How much of their stuff do they allow them to bring I’m sure the accommodations are not that spacious, If it were me, what would become of my stuff Would a storage unit be big enough, good gracious? I am sure some people who regularly break the law Must have this concern, at least, I think they would, And if they don’t, then they certainly should For having enough room for all of one’s stuff Is a very important consideration And yes, I think a lot would depend on the duration. written August 2, 2021

An interesting philosophical question. "what becomes of a rich man’s stuff When they wind up in a house of corrections!" Made me smile.

I don't know what to say. Sometimes I have the craziest thoughts and they seem to creep into my poetry. I am neither rich, nor a crook, so where did this come from???

My problem is I hate dumping stuff. If I cut 7 feet off an 8 foot length of timber, I’ll save that one foot length FOREVER in case it comes in useful. It’s a rare day that it actually does... but not unheard of. And please don’t get me started on tools and fishing gear. An intriguing write, Milt. Terry

Thanks, Terry. I'm not planning on going to prison (chuckle). Actually, I was musing on Bernie Maddoff. He must have had lots of stuff someone had to deal with. I wonder what happened to it? Sometimes I have these crazy thoughts.

We go through life gathering stuff, my biggest downfall is, that stuff that might come in useful one day but I end up going to the dump with it anyway lol. Tom

And, not incidentally, it all belongs to someone else someday. They are going to have to deal with OUR stuff! It's a worthwhile consideration, my friend. I'm still dealing with a lot of my wife's stuff. I can't bring myself to give it away or discard it, and I don't know what to do with it. It has become "my" stuff.

Thanks, Rico. I always enjoy what you have to say about my poems. Hmmm...that wouldn't begin to hold all of my stuff. Of course, I could throw away lots of my stuff...after all, it's just stuff!
