Connections

How is it that energy and life are transmitted
between people in love? What forces are in
play when two people embrace? There is
nothing in the world more comforting than
a sincere hug from someone that loves you.

The connections we make with each other
seem so powerful – and yet in some circumstances
we find it easy to dispose of each other almost
as out of a desire for convenience. Knowing this
and the pain it brings we still play the strings of
each other’s emotions.

So the symphony of love has many movements,
some to stir us, some to scare us, some to assuage
our fears, some to simply confirm that we are still
alive. But mostly I think love gives us something
beyond ourselves to live for. That connection to
each other is the essence of human existence,
without that connection we would simply be
animate creatures in an inanimate world.
