Congressional Confusion

Congress seething with bitter enmity Enmeshed in heated meaningless dispute, Beset with the loss of civility. What one party vows the others refute Reasonable voices leaders will mute, Many bills languish under construction. The congress is locked up in obstruction Confusion reigns in the House and Senate, Some lawmakers soiled by gross corruption, Younger liberals do not want in it.

AMEN to that. The very words with which you end each line add to the punch of the poem. Well done (and true!) I believe our points of view are quite similar.

Thanks so much, Barbara, for your thoughtful and insightful comment on my poem. Yes, I'd say we do.

I have to admit this is curiously the weirdest time that I remember in American politics. I am avoiding it at all turns.

Me, too. But, every once in a while, I get the urge to write something political. I've stopped watching the news on cable and TV. Politics sucks!

George Washington predicted political parties would be the ruination of this country, and we can all see that happening today as no Member of Congress was elected to represent a political party, yet they all vote the party line rather than represent the best interests of their constituents - or the USA - or their political party will not support their re-election! The end is nigh!

I think you've hit the nail on its head, Rico, although i don't think the end is nigh. I remember so God-awful times and the good ol' U.S. of A. pulled out of it.

Let's hearken back to the days when Hamilton and Burr dueled on the White House lawn. That's how to settle things! lol. ... Want to see confusion and enmity? -- Attend a Chicago City Council meeting. . Washington is 'squirt guns' by comparison. Politics breeds all kinds of strange creatures is about all I've got to say! ~ Swamp Creature

Thanks, Andrea, although I'm not really sure it is. I've lived long enough to see some really rotten times come and go...and they do go. I am an optimist, so I do believe that cooler heads will prevail...eventually. I'm too old to worry about this current crap. Let the next generation solve the problems we couldn't, eh? Hey, Andrea, thanks for your visit, your read, and your thoughtful comment.
